There are days in New York when you leave your apartment in the morning, you know you're not going to get back until late that evening and are doing a million things in-between. We city folk don't always have the convenience to swing back home for quick changes or extra swipes of deodorant. Whatever you decide to wear at 9am, has to still be what you want to wear at 7pm. Those days are hard. They take some serious outfit planning.
In my case, this recent whole-day-committed-outfit was for a packed solid, 90 degree Saturday. It started with brunch in the East Village, then walking the waterfront in Dumbo, followed by meandering a photo exhibition in Brooklyn Heights, then hoping a train to the Renegade Craft Fair in Williamsburg, and finally, dinner at Roberta's in Bushwick. Phew. Are you exhausted? Cause I was.
The trick to committing to a day-long outfit, especially if you're going to be mostly outside like I was, is to keep with something simple, versatile and classic. The dress is actually a long maxi skirt that I just hiked up and added a belt. I did a simple sock-bun so my hair would be off my shoulders and hopefully steer clear of its usual crazy, sticky mess come time for dinner and shoes that weren't going to make me cry after only a couple of hours walking.
Oh, and if you're wondering..... yes, I got a gnarly tan line from the mixture of a large brass chain around my neck and the satchel strap. Cheers to awkward tan lines!
