There are so many places to visit and see and shop in New York and it’s hard to always know where your best options are, so when I find a gem that knocks my socks off, I can’t keep it a secret. You may be as shocked as I was to find out that it’s actually really hard to find a great one stop shop in the city for sophisticated and modern kids clothing, accessories, etc. Sure, there’s that one place that has cute shirts or the other place the has decent gift options for those last minute birthday parties, but really….. no one place that you can pop by and know they will always have exactly what you need every time.

Welcome to YOYA, a perfectly curated kids store nestled in the West Village. Trust me, I have spent too much time at mediocre kids stores and this my friends, is seriously top notch. The store’s style is clean and polished with a flair for the whimsical. They carry some of my favorite labels like Liberty, Ouef, Mini Rodini, Tutu du Monde, Louis Louise and so many more. Everything is color-coded, for shopping ease, and organized with care. Really makes me want to step up my nursery decor game!

And if the store doesn’t impress you enough, just wait until you meet its owner Cristina. She’s originally from Columbia (so she’s just chic by nature) and opened the store back in 2004 (so she’s a legit #momboss) and is the brainchild behind the merchandising, curating, displays….basically, everything. Did I mention she also specializes in interior consulting for children’s playrooms and bedrooms? So yes….I obviously have a girl crush on her.

And it doesn’t stop there. The store also boasts beautiful home decor and a selection of women’s clothing. Just being there excites this crazy sense of creativity and inspiration for both mom’s and their kids! Consider this a public service announcement to help save you from wasted hours at other stores. Now, you know!

cuyana fashion leather bag

A couple of years ago, I was introduced to the brand Cuyana by some friends out in California. They started small with just a few essential pieces and now they’ve expanded to everything from bags to scarves and shirts and even wallets. Everything is based around the motto of ‘fewer, better things’ and supports their company philosophy on the slow fashion movement. It’s like the farm-to-table of fashion…. the anti-Forever 21 scenario where you buy a trendy item without much thinking and the piece is easily discarded after a few wears. Very opposite of the general consumerism agenda in the US these days. And that’s refreshing!

Over the past year, I’ve really been trying to focus more on intentional buying habits. Before adding an item to my closet, I ask myself a few questions ranging from ‘Do I already own something similar to this?’, ‘Is this something I can wear with a variety of things I already own?’, ‘What’s the approximate cost per wear?’ and ‘Does this add value to my wardrobe?’. I’ve become very in touch with my inner voice of need vs want!

The great thing about Cuyana, is that I don’t have to overthink anything I buy from them because I know it’s the best of the best, will fit like a glove and will last forever. It’s nice when you can trust a brand and the quality you will receive from them. Their accessories are the perfect little gifts for any occasion, which is helpful if you’re still on the lookout for a Mother’s Day Gift y’all!

I just had to dedicate a blog post to this brand - that is how much I love them and their products! Join their “Lean Closet Movement” during the checkout process on their website and they will send you a reuseable bag to fill up with items you no longer want in your closet. You send those into them using their provided prepaid return shipping label and your donated clothing is given directly to women in need through their non-profit partner H.E.A.R.T (Helping Ease Abuse Related Trauma). Plus, Cuyana will give you a $10 credit towards your next purchase for the donation. Pretty sweet deal if you ask me!

The first time I saw a photo of one of those leather woven chairs from The Citizenry..... there were too many emotions to mention. Like.. all the feelings. Which, honestly surprised me as the Cali-resort-laid back-west coast furniture designs are not usually what I gravitate towards. But, geez..... just look at those beauties above. I'd make them work!

I believe we are in a time where businesses have to be more aware of how the impact of their goods and services directly impacts others. There is more focus on partnering with local communities to build more sustainability. I'm honored to see this regularly at my day job, but it has also made me that much more aware of other companies who are doing it.... and doing it really well.

The team over at The Citizenry are executing a beautiful business model for sourcing global goods. They collaborate with local artisans, partner with them to design products based around their age-old skills and regional materials. The outcome of those partnerships results in some seriously incredible pieces. I mean, just feast your eyes on theses photos!

Every time we travel I always find a piece of furniture or oversized serving platter that I'm convinced I could fit in my suitcase and bring home with me....... or at least I'm convinced a man with a van could be persuaded to drive it back to Brooklyn. That is rarely ever an actual possibility and it's also pretty expensive.

One of the best parts of The Citizenry is that they have given us access to all of these worldly goods without having to travel far and wide to collect them. Instead, they are just a few clicks away from being on your doorstep and in your living room.  God, I love the internet.

While these are just some of my favorite pieces I've highlighted in this post, be sure to hop over to their website to check out alllllll the drool worthy goods they have in their current collection. Each season they come out with a new collection - so don't worry - the lusting is never-ending!
